A Birmingham fan has pleaded guilty to assaulting Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish during a League Championship soccer match on Sunday in Birmingham, Englad, moments before Grealish scored the game's only goal.

Paul Mitchell ran onto the field during the match and punched Grealish on the side of his face, sending the player sprawling to the turf. Per reports, Mitchell entered a guilty plea at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, largely due to fear for his life if he left his home.

In a moment of ultimate payback later in the match, Grealish gave Aston Villa a 1-0 lead before entering the stands to celebrate.

Where were the security measures to ensure events like this don't happen during matches? Mitchell was quickly subdued by security and Grealish's teammates, but that blindside punch could have seriously injured Aston Villa's star.
